Disability Support Worker – Melbourne

About the role

VIA Care is a growing NDIS service provider. We are currently recruiting for a staffing team to provide at-home care and community access for several NDIS participants residing in Melbourne.

You will be a member of a cross-disciplinary team comprising members experienced with a disability, mental health, intellectual disability, acquired brain injury (ABI), and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) supports.

In addition, staff will be able to work with a range of other participants who VIA Care support in both community and home-based settings.

What we offer

We can provide a full 8-hour shift available across the week.

Required skills and experience

  • Qualifications or experience in disability, nursing, AOD, community services, mental health, Intellectual Disability, Acquired Brain Injury, ASD.
  • Communication skills with assisting people with communication challenges and people who are non-verbal.
  • Have genuine respect for people with disability and a commitment to providing them with dignified and personalized care
  • Ability to present with confidence as a professional which engenders trust from participants who rely on you to meet their support needs
  • Ability and willingness to identify client needs and additional opportunities to assist them in achieving their goals within the way you work with them
  • Ability to create a friendly rapport with participants to allow them to feel comfortable and respected
  • Excellent documentation practice
  • Display a relationship-centered approach to care and understanding of or willingness to learn about other methods of care (e.g., trauma-informed, family-centered)
  • Ability and confidence to work autonomously and contribute to a support plan which is being implemented by a team of staff around a participant
  • Willingness to undertake hand-over and supervision remotely using email, phone, and video conferencing when required.
  • Current national police check
  • NDIS worker screening check
  • Fully vaccinated against Covid-19
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a car.
