Tracking the NDIS progress in the latest quarterly report

On November 8, 2021, The Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC, released the Quarterly Report to disability ministers Q1 2021-22. The report contains a wide range of NDIS data, and provides commentary about the Scheme’s progress, successes, and challenges.

Of significant interest it the growing response to Psychosocial Disability, and the proportion of participants who are either Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders or from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Community. As a service provider these highlights drive home our need to provide a culturally safe services which can respond to people from diverse cultural backgrounds, and to increasingly offer services for people with psychosocial disability. We remain proud of our current work to deliver bi-lingual services for people from different linguistic backgrounds and our workforce’s multi-disciplinary nature to meet both physical and psychosocial needs, and this data reinforces our need to continue investing in this arena.

Key notes from the latest quarterly report:

  • As of the 30th of September 2021, 484,700 participants were receiving NDIS support in Australia
  • 74,840 of these participants were children aged younger than 7 (15%)
  • 12.7% of participants who received a plan in the quarter had a Psychosocial Disability, compared to 10.4% in the previous quarters combined.
  • 8.8% identified as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
  • 9.7% identified as from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse community
